Astir, Tirana: what to know

Astiri lies in the west of the city, along Unaza e Re. The area has developed mainly from the 1990s onwards and today has many new apartment blocks, at lower prices than the centre.

Astir is about 3 km west of Skanderbeg Square, beside the outer ring road (Unaza e Madhe), near the Shqiponja junction. It borders Yzberisht, Kashar and Mëzez.

For municipal services residents use the office of Lagjja nr. 14, opened for Astir, Yzberisht and the outer-ring area. Before it they had to go to Kombinat, Kashar or 21 Dhjetori.

Transport

The area is tied to the rest of the city by the outer ring road, which runs alongside it.

Housing and history

Astir was built from the mid-1990s on what was then the edge of Tirana, mostly without permits. Residents have been going through the state legalisation process, and some buildings were demolished to widen the ring road. Today it is a dense area where apartment buildings and private houses stand side by side.
